This lecture comes at a critical juncture for Egypt and the United Kingdom, as 2017 will witness landmark developments in both countries. Egypt will continue the path it has embarked upon to implement a highly ambitious economic reforms program which aims to unleash the true potential of the second largest economy in the Arab World and Africa. This program strives to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity for the people of Egypt. It also goes together with bold and ambitious mega projects the Government is working on that provide exceptional investment opportunities for the UK and other countries around the world.
As for the United Kingdom, The British Prime Minister has already triggered article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty to formally launch the negotiations on exiting the European Union as per the will of the British People, expressed in the result of the historic referendum held on the 23rd of June last year 2016 and has called for a General Elections on the 8th of June to give a new government the mandate to negotiate with the EU 27 on behalf of the British people. At the same time the UK strives to build new economic relations with the rest of the world to continue its track record of being the fastest growing major economy in the world.
Ambassador Nasser Kamel will provide a unique point of view on the prospects and the efforts exerted to enhance cooperation between the Middle East and the UK in all sectors.

His Excellency Mr Nasser A Kamel
Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Mr Kamel has been the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the UK since September 2014. |
His previous position prior to the UK was Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cairo (2012-2014).
Shortly after joining the Egyptian Foreign Service in 1983, he was posted as Political and Economic Office, at the Egyptian Embassy in Washington D.C., (1984-1988). He then returned to Cairo to join the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (1988-1990). Later he was posted as an Economic Counsellor in the Egyptian Embassy in Lisbon (1990-1994), and then, in Tunis (1994-1998), before moving back to Cairo as to assume the position of Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs (1998-1999).
In 1999-2001 he was appointed as Deputy Chief of Mission, Head of the European Commission/Council in the Egyptian Mission in Brussels, then as a Deputy Chief of Mission at the Egyptian Embassy in Paris (2001 – 2004).
From 2004 to 2006 Mr Kamel was appointed Director of Egypt’s Public Information Service. He was then appointed as the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to France for 6 years (2006 – 2012), where he was also Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and l'Organization International de la Francophonie(OIF).
Ambassador Nasser Kamel attended undergraduate studies in the School of Economics and Political Science of the University of Brussels, and the School of Economic and Political Sciences of Cairo University. He also studied in the Institut International d'Administration Publique, in Paris (1982-1983).
