In his talk, Nigel Owens MBE, will address some of his experiences surrounding his sexuality and the impact that they have had on his personal and sporting life. In doing so, it is hoped to provide a greater insight into his personal journey as well as drawing attention to some of the current issues surrounding individuals who identify themselves as LGBT+. Nigel closes with an opportunity and a safe space for questions and answers related to any aspect of the talk.

Having received his MBE in 2016, Nigel Owens is regarded by many as one of the world’s best rugby referees. In 2015, Nigel was presented with the Sports Person of the Decade award from Stonewall for being such a prominent and visible role model in his field. Away from rugby, Nigel is an Honorary Fellow at Cardiff Metropolitan University as well as a Patron of Samaritans Cymru, urging young people experiencing homophobic abuse to speak out. As a TV personality, Nigel has presented a number of Welsh language TV shows in addition to making appearances across National and International media.
